John Baker

On the Baker farm cotton, tobacco, and corn grows. He has been married to his lovely wife Alice for 7 years. They have two daughters and two sons. His sons go to school and his daughters get privately tutored. Although he had a traumatic childhood losing all his siblings to polio, Baker is very well educated. Baker is very wealthy due to inheriting all of his father' money when he passed away in 1856. Baker believes in the confederacy because he thinks "the Union has no reason to not care about us (the South) and then decide that they are going to change everything we have. I also believe that the negroes are made to work and the enjoy working because what else would they be doing and the do not have the same status as a White man."
